Allegra Spender MP
Federal Member for Wentworth
Allegra Spender is an accomplished business leader, clean energy advocate, and the independent Federal Member of Parliament for Wentworth. With deep roots in the community, Allegra grew up in Wentworth and is now raising her own children in the area, driven by a passion to secure the same quality of life and opportunities for future generations.
Allegra’s academic background includes an Economics degree from Cambridge University, an MSc from the University of London, and advanced business courses at Harvard and Dartmouth College. Her professional journey began at McKinsey as a business analyst, where she gained expertise across diverse industries and business strategies. She further honed her skills as a policy analyst at the UK Treasury before taking on the role of Managing Director at Carla Zampatti Pty Ltd, her family’s iconic fashion label.
As Chair of the Sydney Renewable Power Company, Allegra spearheaded the installation of the largest CBD solar array in Australia at the time. Her commitment to social impact extended to her role as CEO of the Australian Business and Community Network, where she partnered with leading Australian businesses to address educational disadvantages.

Jess Aloi
Australia GTM Lead, Square
Jess Aloi leads the GTM team for Square in Australia, and is responsible for the growth and profitability of Square in this market. In her 25 year career she has worked across a diverse portfolio of Retail, Consumer Lending and Healthcare businesses.
She has also worked across the spectrum from early stage fintech start-ups to listed companies. Jess is an enterprise leader, a change agent and a lover of technology.

Ian Bailey
Managing Director, Kmart Group Australia
Ian was appointed Managing Director, Kmart in February 2016 and assumed the responsibility for leading the Kmart Group division (encompassing the Kmart, Target and Catch* businesses) in November 2018. Prior to this, Ian was Kmart’s Chief Operating Officer where he was instrumental in Kmart’s turnaround.
Ian’s experience, both national and international, covers a number of industries including retail, professional services, consulting, technology and healthcare in positions that include general management, sales, business development and project management.
Ian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Jess Bala
Managing Director, General Motors Australia and New Zealand
Jess was appointed Managing Director of GM Australia and New Zealand in September 2023.
Jess is responsible for leading GM’s A/NZ business units including GM Specialty Vehicles, Cadillac Australia & New Zealand, Isuzu New Zealand, the GM & Holden Aftersales operations for Australia and New Zealand and leading these markets as the business continues to grow and transform for the future.
Jess has 15+ years of global experience in leading and implementing winning product strategies, including the introduction, and positioning of Electric Vehicles in both retail and commercial markets.
Jess served as Cadillac Global Product Planning Director and launched the XT4 MCM and the highly popular Escalade V.
She also played a key role in the transition of the Cadillac brand to an all-electric future, including the launch the Cadillac LYRIQ in North America and China, and developed plans to introduce autonomous driving on future Cadillac vehicles.
Jess also served as the Chief of Staff for GM’s Chair and CEO, Mary Barra.
Jess received her Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University, and her MBA from Deakin University.

Kate Box
Director, Global Business Group, Retail ANZ, Meta
Kate Box is Industry Director for Retail at Meta.
She and her team partner with the industry to grow understanding of consumer insights and technical innovations that are fast evolving the shopping eco-system, and develop innovative strategies that grow business.
Kate has almost 30 years of experience working in marketing, media and finance and leading teams.
Prior to joining Facebook in 2011, Kate led the Social Media team at Microsoft Advertising UK and also worked client side for Sensis, McDonalds and Tabcorp.

Karen Bozic
Group Chief Executive Officer, Craveable Brands.
Karen is a senior retail executive who has worked in some of Australia’s most iconic retail brands: Woolworths, BIG W, Caltex (now Ampol) and Rebel Sport.
Karen has been a CFO, COO, GM of Strategy, Transformation and Replenishment and is the Group CEO of Australia’s largest born and bred quick service restaurant group, Craveable Brands, who operate over 600 Red Rooster, Oporto, Chicken Treat and Chargrill Charlie’s restaurants.
Karen is a CEW, ARA and FCA member, and is passionate about retail, people and diversity.

Fleur Brown
Chief Industry Affairs Officer, Australian Retailers Association
Fleur leads the Industry Affairs portfolio for the ARA which encompasses policy and advocacy, media, marketing, events and partnerships.
Fleur has worked as an executive leader in government, media, marketing industries and prior to joining the ARA ran the award-winning Launch Group agency which was responsible government and investor relations, advocacy and media management for many leading Australian brands and public entities.
With a rich background in technology and innovation, she is a former Director of TechSydney, a founding team member of StartupAUS (now Tech Council Australia) a founding director of TEDxSydney and founder and producer the Nine Network’s Entrepreneurs TV show.
Fleur is author of the business book The Business of Being You.

Sally Calder
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, RespectX
Sally is the CEO and Co-founder of RespectX, a contemporary digital platform that provides simple and safe reporting and case management, for the prevention of all psycho-social injury at work.
Sally was previously the National Lead Partner of Culture, Diversity and Inclusion at KPMG and has worked in the prevention of and response to sexual violence and domestic violence for over 30 years.
In a previous life she owned and operated retail businesses and has 5 children who have all had part time jobs in the sector.

Desmond Campbell
Chief Executive Officer, Welcome to Country
Desmond Campbell (Jangala/Gojok) is a proud Gurindji and Alawa man with a deep passion and wealth of experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations to achieve control and self-determination for First Nations communities through business and enterprise.
Prior to taking the role of CEO at Welcome to Country Desmond was First Nations Practice Lead at Social Ventures Australia. Desmond has worked on a range of projects influencing better service delivery practices in sectors such as health, social justice, family welfare and strategy development in community-led social ventures.
Desmond has worked with the Northern Territory Government in a number of roles including Operations Manager for the community based Family Violence Program with NT Correctional Services, which also included public policy and framework development and implementation around family and domestic violence prevention; a Project Officer developing a gender equity strategy with the Anti-Discrimination Commission; and, more recently, Senior Executive Officer for the Attorney General and Justice Department for the Northern Territory.
Desmond is an active community member and has extensive experience in family and domestic violence prevention and is a current Board Director at Our WATCh.
Desmond is excited to be on a the forefront of a wave of cultural change in Australia and looking forward to being involved in directing and supporting this change as CEO of Welcome to Country.

Lindsay Carroll
Interim Chief Executive Officer, National Retail Association
As the Deputy CEO and Legal Practice Director at the National Retail Association, Lindsay (she/her) oversees one of the largest in-house team of workplace relations advisors and lawyers orientated to the retail and quick services industries.
Lindsay is a leading workplace relations specialist and regularly provides advice on the full spectrum of workplace relations and work health and safety in Australia.
Compliance with workplace laws can be challenging but with an unwavering focus on delivering practical support to NRA’s members and clients, Lindsay’s team consistently achieves solid outcomes for the retail industry.
Lindsay is also an experienced work health and safety lawyer with experience in work health and safety management system review, incident response and management and in defending criminal prosecutions arising from safety incidents.
Lindsay started her legal career with global law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright and prior to joining the NRA, was a trusted advisor to the mining, oil and gas, and construction sectors in an employer association to the resources industry.

Peter Carter
General Manager of Public Policy & Government Engagement, GS1 Australia
Peter is a partnership broker, innovator and provocateur focused on supply chain traceability, sustainability and digital trade standards. He is General Manager of Public Policy and Government Engagement at GS1 Australia.
Peter leads cross-sector programs and works closely with national industry organisations and interest groups to align government and industry on key themes, including supply chain resilience, ESG claims verification and digital trade.
Before joining GS1 Peter worked with Data61 at the CSIRO. He is an agricultural economist, Churchill Fellow and expert contributor to UNCEFACT.

Gerard Connell

Gerard Connell is a Melbourne-based Consultant at Egon Zehnder, the world’s preeminent leadership advisory firm dedicated to creating a better world by discovering, developing and transforming the leaders of today and tomorrow.
Gerard is a leader in Egon Zehnder’s Consumer, Retail and CMO practice groups. Drawing on over 15 years of international automotive experience, Gerard also belongs to the Firm’s global Automotive & Mobility practice.
He specialises in CEO succession, board and senior executive search, and developmental assessment programs.
Prior to joining Egon Zehnder, Gerard was responsible for retail strategy for electric vehicles at General Motors in Detroit, which involved developing a new digital retail platform to power the future CX of GM’s brands.
Previously, Gerard led sales and marketing for OnStar, GM’s connected vehicle subscription service.
He began his career with GM Holden in Melbourne, where he held various sales and marketing leadership roles and spent extensive time partnering closely with the Holden franchise retail network.

Laura Cordero

Laura Cordero brings extensive experience to the ARA having worked for some of Australia’s biggest retail and media brands leading consumer and B2B marketing teams. As the Director of Marketing, she develops and leads strategic initiatives that drive the value proposition for our members including marketing communications, events and partnerships.
With a strong background in retail marketing, Laura has led impactful campaigns, brand transformations, and digital innovations that enhance consumer experiences and industry influence. Her expertise spans brand and creative strategy, content marketing and customer engagement and growth.

John Costello

Samantha Devlin

Samantha is the Co Founder and CEO of The Careers Department. Today, the EdTech business works with more than 750 high schools nationally; providing individualised career and skill support for students.
Samantha is the commercial and strategic lead for the business; working with stakeholders across government, community and partner organisations.

Vicki Doyle

Vicki joined Rest as Chief Executive Officer in May 2018, bringing more than 20 years of senior executive leadership experience in superannuation, life insurance, wealth management and banking.
Vicki’s experience includes executive leadership roles at some of Australia’s largest financial services organisations. She has an extensive background in distribution, strategic marketing, digital, fund operations and contact centres, customer strategy and design and product management.
Vicki is passionate about simplifying and demystifying superannuation to help all Australians achieve their best retirement outcomes.

Gerard Dwyer
National Secretary-Treasurer of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association
Gerard Dwyer is the National Secretary-Treasurer of the Shop, Distributive & Allied Employees’ Association. Gerard has been the Secretary-Treasurer of the SDA-NSW Branch (2005-2014), National President of the Union (2008-2014) and SDA National Secretary since 2014.
The SDA is one of Australia’s largest trade unions and represents employees working in retail, on-line retail, warehousing and fast food. Gerard is currently Senior Vice President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), a member of the ACTU Executive, a member of the National Executive of the
Australian Labor Party, and elected World President of UNI Global Union in August 2023. Gerard grew up in regional NSW and moved to Sydney at the age of 18 to pursue tertiary studies.
He has a Bachelor of Education (History and English, 1989), a Masters of Business in Employment Relations (UTS, 2002) and is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Gerard’s working life has seen him employed as a shop assistant, classroom teacher, social worker and as a Trade Union Official for over 30 years.

Marks & Spencer in the UK over two decades, in roles spanning buying, merchandising and sourcing. Originally from Scotland, Scott now lives in Melbourne with his wife and two daughters.

Richard Goodman

Daniel "Pancho" Gutstein
Chief Executive Officer, Forty Winks
Daniel “Pancho” Gutstein has worked in consumer products across strategy, brand, digital, product and commercial leadership for more than 20 years.
Born in the United States, Pancho studied at Princeton University and upon graduation, with no clear career ambitions, moved to New York City to pursue acting, at which he failed miserably.
Pancho then joined Doublespace, a NYC boutique brand and digital agency and began his career in brand and consumer marketing.
He has held senior roles at Graco Children’s Products (A Newell Rubbermaid Company) and PUMA, where most recently he was the General Manager of PUMA Oceania.
He left PUMA to join Forty Winks as their CEO in January of 2024. Driven by learning and problem solving, Pancho enjoys working with others to help them in their pursuit of better.
In 2025 he has committed to his two young daughters, Isla and Flo, not to eat sweets and to his wife Kay to improve his active listening. Both will be challenging.

Fiona Hayes

Fiona joined 7-Eleven in 2022, as General Manager – Channel before being appointed CEO and Managing Director in July 2024.
She is responsible for leading the 7-Eleven Australia team, driving the business strategy, growing the brand and maintaining the company’s position as Australia’s first choice in convenience retailing.
She has extensive experience in operations and retail networks having held a range of senior roles with Telstra over 26 years, including 12 years as part of the Telstra executive team.

Olivia Hitchens

Prior to founding Artemide, Olivia founded and ultimately exited from Hitch Advisory lawyers.
Olivia is widely regarded as the leader in Retail Law and Franchising as well as having a diverse Property Law practice.
Known as a renowned problem solver, deal negotiator and corporate ‘fixer’ – Olivia advises some of Australia’s largest businesses and high profile clients.

Deputy Commissioner David Hudson APM
Investigations & Counter Terrorism, NSW Police Force
Deputy Commissioner David Hudson joined the New South Wales Police Force in 1981. He is currently the Deputy Commissioner for Investigations & Counter Terrorism.
For most of his early career he was involved in criminal investigation, including roles as Chief of Detectives and Crime Manager.
In 2001 he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent as a Local Area Commander and performed this role within three metropolitan Commands of Sydney.
In 2005 Mr Hudson was appointed as the Director of Operations of the Professional Standards Command, a position he held for 12 months prior to being transferred to the State Crime Command as Operations Manager at the rank of Detective Chief Superintendent.
In March 2008 he was appointed as Assistant Commissioner, Commander of the State Crime Command, a command consisting of twelve crime squads and being responsible for the investigation of serious and organised crime within New South Wales. Additionally, in this role he performed duties as the inaugural chair of the Detectives Board and was a member of the NSW Sentencing Council and NSW Victim Advisory Board. He was also an inaugural member of the Australasian Crime Forum, the National Senior Officers Group on Organised Crime, National Cyber Crime Working Group and was chair of the National Serious Organised Crime Co-ordinating Committee.
Since being appointed as a Deputy Commissioner in 2011 he has performed the role in both Specialist Operations and Corporate Services.
In 2017 Mr Hudson was appointed as the Deputy Commissioner Investigations and Counter Terrorism. In this position he has strategic responsibility for investigations, counter terrorism, intelligence, forensics and covert capabilities as well as prosecutions and professional standards.
Deputy Commissioner Hudson is the NSW police representative on the Australian and New Zealand Counter Terrorism Committee, the Australian Transnational Serious Organised Crime Committee and the National Criminal Intelligence Steering Committee.
Deputy Commissioner Hudson participated in the Leadership in Counter Terrorism (LinCT) program in 2011. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Program and is a former President of the Asia / Pacific Chapter of the National Academy Graduates Program. He is also a graduate of the ‘Pearls in Policing’ Program. He holds a Masters of Public Policy and Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Criminology.

Sarah Hunter
Managing Director, Officeworks
Sarah was appointed Managing Director of Officeworks in January 2019. Prior to this, Sarah was the Demerger Program Director at Coles, overseeing the successful implementation of the demerger of the business from Wesfarmers in November 2018.
Sarah joined Coles in 2010, and held various senior positions including Financial Controller, State General Manager Victoria, General Manager Workplace Strategy and roles in convenience, liquor and supermarket operations.
Before joining Coles, Sarah worked in the United Kingdom for more than 10 years, holding a number of senior commercial positions in banking and airports including Strategy and Finance Director for Gatwick Airport from 2006 to 2010.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Bond University, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales.
She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of Chief Executive Women.

Gareth Jude
CEO & Co-Founder, ThinkUncommon
Gareth has had a long career in the retail industry as a store operator, supplier, educator and author.
He is currently CEO of advisory firm ThinkUncommon who help retailers and their suppliers with the process of retail innovation.
He is the co-author of “Retail Innovation Reframed” which explains that successful retail innovation depends less on moments of inspiration and more on repeatable processes.
Gareth is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney’s Institute of Transport and Logistics studies where his research interest is consumer logistics.

Lisa Keenan
Executive Director, M-Power, MECCA
Lisa leads MECCA’s social change initiative M-POWER, helping to define MECCA’s philanthropy and aligning its business and brand behind its vision for a world in which gender doesn’t limit anyone’s rights, freedoms or opportunities.
Lisa is the co-founder of Nightingale Advisers, a boutique reputation advisory firm, and a Non Executive Director of the Australian Lymphoma and Leukemia Group.

Liana Kohn-Gardner
Vice President Merchant Partnerships A/NZ, American Express
Liana is the Vice President of Merchant Partnerships for American Express in Australia and New Zealand. In this role, Liana drives the growth of a dynamic merchant network by building strong partnerships and innovative account development strategies. She also has responsibility for Amex’s merchant product suite, including AccessLine, which delivers a convenient and rewarding solution for business payments.
In her 13 years at American Express, Liana has led business development for network partnerships and global merchants across both the U.S. and APAC.
Most recently as Vice President of Loyalty and Partnerships, Liana was responsible for Amex’s proprietary rewards program, Membership Rewards, and co-brand card partnership strategies for Qantas and Velocity.
Liana has a Bachelor of Psychology from Wesleyan University and an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Michele Levine
Chief Executive Officer, Roy Morgan
Michele Levine was born with a passion for people and what makes them tick, social justice and an insatiable curiosity about life.
With over 30 years’ experience as a researcher, Michele has been responsible for thousands of surveys, including many of the largest research projects ever undertaken in Australia, many of which continue to play a critically important part in shaping our society today.
With a fundamental belief in the empowering value of information, Michele was instrumental in the development and refinement of Roy Morgan Single Source, the world’s leading consumer study (based on over 50,000 interviews a year) and, in 2010, the introduction of the Roy Morgan Business Survey.
Michele was ahead of her time in foreseeing the exponential growth of big data and, consequently the need for software (like ASTEROID) which can manage and order massive volumes of data – as well as the need for highly trained analysts and data scientists who can help make sense of it.
Still a proud ‘researcher’, she is a hands-on CEO, personally involved with the company’s core products and the results of the company’s surveys on a daily basis.
Many of the company’s innovative products – including Technology Adoption Segments and Web Audience Measurement (WAM) – would not exist had it not been for Michele’s foresight and determination to lead rather than follow.

Kasey Lobaugh

Kasey serves as the Chief Futurist for Deloitte’s Consumer Industry, based in the United States. For more than 25 years, he has worked with many of the world’s largest consumer industry companies to drive strategic perspectives, strategic initiatives, and organizational change.
Kasey consults with clients to strategize against the changing competitive landscape and the rapidly evolving consumer.
He focuses on broad business-based strategy that will enable innovative customer experiences, operational scalability, and provide outsized return-on-investment.
